Ethiopian Languages Unit
The Ethiopian languages unit of the institute library consists of unique collections of books, pamphlets, leaflets,
government documents, variety of periodicals, prospectus and other
materials in languages of Geez, Amharic, Oromiffa,Tigrigna,
Kunamigna, Afar,...
The periodical section under it comprises all
serial publications produced in Ethiopia and the few periodicals on
the country published abroad. The collection is the most
comprehensive collections of its kind in the world, which includes
about 10,000 bound and 3,000 unbound periodicals of 600 titles.
The collection of this section grows daily and
currently over 35,000 volumes are available including:
- all books and periodicals in different forms:
printed, mimeographed, etc.
- different types of research reports:
Dissertations, theses, etc
- other rare collections of historical and
cultural value, such as
- the Holy Bible of 1701 Ethiopian
Calendar
- early Amharic works on Agriculture,
hygiene, Politics and Administration
- the first newspaper of Amharic and
Tigrigna
- a large collection of college and school
magazines
